The granite eggs, Djúpivogur, Iceland
After reading everything and watching the videos, this is what I am taking away from all of it:
Wear Layers!
As far as weather, it is looking like we will have a mix of sun and rain, and heads up, the rain is COLD; however, the weather will be unpredictable at best. If you bring a ton of heavy clothing, guaranteed it will be a mini heat wave and 90 each day. Don't pack a lot of anything, and you surely don't need a full hazmat suit to stay dry. A few pieces you can mix and match are best.
The ship will be very warm and cozy - even the pool is covered. So, bring some comfy casual clothes to explore and hang out in. The thing we do pack a lot of is t-shirts. They make a great base layer you can change daily, and they pack small. Also, don't forget a couple of dressy outfits for dinners. More on that below.
You know what keeps you comfortable. Wear a t-shirt and whatever keeps you warm like your fav hoodie or puffer jacket. Cover with a light rain jacket, and you should be good for anything. Change your t-shirt and repeat for the next day. If you have a rain poncho, they are great for dripping the water off a little farther out from your body so your pants and backpack don't get wet.
Finally, wear some shoes that comfortable and good in rain. Everyone online recommends waterproof hikers, but your comfy sneakers could work too. As long as what you have isn't canvas or mesh it should work just fine.
Packing Checklist
Waterproof Hiking Boots or shoes - vented sneakers will leave your feet wet.
Sandals or comfy shoes for the boat
Wool Socks
Rain Jacket - something light and roomy you can pull over a sweatshirt or hoodie
Plastic poncho - the cheap plastic kind works super well. Just make sure it covers your sleeves!
Fleece Jacket or Down Puffer jacket- something warm that packs down easily
Cozy Sweater, Flannel, or your fav hoodie
Everyday hat and a warm hat - bring both
Light gloves
Pants
Shorts - at least a couple pairs for the ship and in case it gets hot and also to wear about ship
Short and long sleeve Tops
Swimsuit
Sunglasses
What do I to wear to dinner?
There are two formal nights on the ship: day two, at sea; and day 6, Ketchikan. You will only need nice clothes if you are eating in the main dining or one of the specialty restaurants. Feel free to get as dressy as you wish. We will wear our tuxes (don't get to dress up often in them, so we are gonna break them out!) Don't wanna dress up? Then the lido deck buffet is always casual. Note: All the restaurants, except those actually at the pool, do not allow beachwear.
We had planned on two nights eating together in the main dining room. The first night we are on ship, and then again, as it turns out, the Ketchikan night; however, that means we would need to dress up that second night. That leads me to a quick survey so I can figure some things out for the cruise. Please fill out the survey below! Thanks - Ed
